Everything you need to know about new D-Day film Pressure

by | May 29

Based on the acclaimed play from veteran playwright and actor David Haig, Pressure tells the true story of the relationship between Britain’s Chief Meteorological Officer James Stagg and American General Dwight Eisenhower in the 72 hours before D-Day.

With Stagg warning that the looming storms could make the launch disastrous, Eisenhower must choose between this or potentially losing the war altogether, with lives of millions and the fate of the war hanging in the balance.

However Stagg immediately locks horns with Irving Krick, a confidently optimistic American meteorologist who has been advising General Eisenhower for years. Relying on repetitive historical weather charts, Krick predicts clear skies and a smooth sailing forecast for the invasion of D-Day.

The script was adapted from the critically acclaimed 2014 stage play of the same name by British actor and playwright David Haig, who based his writing extensively on actual historical records, weather logs, and military archives.

Boasting an ensemble cast, the film stars Academy Award winner Brendan Fraser as General Eisenhower and Golden Globe winner Andrew Scott as James Stagg, alongside a stellar supporting cast that includes Damian Lewis and Kerry Condon.

Director Anthony Maras has a history of basing films on true stories, previously directing acclaimed 2018’s Hotel Mumbai documenting the harrowing true events of the 2008 Mumbai terrorist attacks at the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel and 2011’s The Palace set during the 1974 Turkish invasion of Cyprus.

Pressure is out in US cinemas on 29 May, and out in the UK on 9 September.
