Jimmy: KJ Apa to Star as Jimmy Stewart in Biopic

A full length trailer has been released for the biographical drama Jimmy.

The movie stars KJ Apa as James ‘Jimmy’ Stewart focusing on his time from winning the award for ‘The Philadelphia Story’ to enlisting and becoming a combat pilot in the U.S. Army Air Corps at the beginning of World War II to his return to the screen with ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’

The trailer focuses on his internal trials and tribulations as he tries to join the war effort and serve his country, choosing his country over stardom, with the personal struggles he deals with after the war.

The Trailer is shown immediately with a flash of the camera, and a trickling of champagne with cuts to Jimmy Stewart, at a party, on set and in his private abode. With the dialogue of

“What’s it like to be a star Jimmy Stewart”, to which he responds “It’s the best feeling in the world”.

We go on further to explore and see Stewart be exposed to the war and how its coming to the United States, “whether we like it or not”.

We cut instantly to Stewart pick up up his draft letter to join the military, and the backlash he receives from his agents and producers, but also the army themselves, as we hear that Stewart is “Just not cut out for it”.

We then cut to Jimmy leaving for the war with kisses in his handkerchief to remember his loved ones, to a switch in the cockpit in which he flies the B-24 Liberator heavy bomber.

Deployed to England in 1943, Jimmy Stewart served as the commanding officer of the 703rd Bomb Squadron and later as an operations officer for the 453rd Bombardment Group. 

He flew over 20 combat missions over Nazi-occupied Europe.

The trailer goes on further and shows Stewart in war and the realities of it all as he said: “I’ve done this scene in so many movies, but this isn’t a movie, this is my life”.

We continue to see the breakdown of him as a person and the severe PTSD he suffered from War, to him compilating his own life at a cliff until he is approached.

The man gives him another shot at stardom with the script of the wildly successful film ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’. 

‘‘It’s a Wonderful Life’ originally flopped at the Box Office, due to its themes of depression, financial crisis’s and suicide, but is now considered one of Jimmy Stewarts most revered films.

The trailer continues to show his highs and lows from snowball fights to ruining Christmas.

With a monologue stating “I don’t want to be a god, if i could look at myself in the mirror and see a good man, looking back at me” till the title card.

Jimmy Stewart died on the 2 July 1997, due to a cardiac arrest caused by a pulmonary embolism.

The film is is set to release in the US on November 6th, with a release date for the UK yet to be announced.
